ISABELA CITY, Basilan, Jan 27 (PIA) – In support to raising the country’s quality education, the Western Command (WESCOM), led by LtGen Juancho M Sabban AFP, showed full support to the campaign “Kahit Isang Araw Lang” (Just One Day) Unity Run held last Sunday, 22 January 2012 in Puerto Princesa City.
The 6th Civil Relation Group of the AFP disclosed that the said activity aims to unite Filipinos in a fun run and gather funds for the construction of 150 computer laboratories in selected public schools across the country.
Over a hundred soldiers and personnel from Team WESCOM joined the other 12,000 runners who participated and supported the 3-Kilometer, 5-Kilometer and 10-Kilometer run. A total of P10,500.00 was donated by WESCOM for this fund raising activity.
WESCOM also provided transportation assistance, medical assistance with ambulance and helped in maintaining the security and safety of all the participants.
“We will support all activities of all sectors in promoting peace, unity and development in the area of operation. This is our mandate and legacy for the future generation”, LtGen Sabban AFP said.
Supporting the Department of Education’s noble goal to improve the country’s educational standard is also a part of the Armed Forces of the Philippines’ Internal Peace and Security Plan (IPSP) or the “Oplan Bayanihan”. This falls under its People-Centered Approach under the broader frame of Human Security where access to education is a part of, especially to the development of underprivileged Filipino youth.
