ARMM holds 1st Reg’l Research & Dev’t Symposium for Agriculture, Fisheries

ISABELA CITY, Basilan, Dec 24 (PIA) – The Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) held its first Regional Research and Development Symposium for Agriculture and Fisheries early this month as part of the 17th grand anniversary celebration of its research center.

ARMM Executive Secretary Naguib Sinarimbo cited the significant role of the ARMM Integrated Agriculture Research and Extension Center (ARMMIARC) in boosting the agriculture and fishery industry in the region.

Sinarimbo stressed further the importance of strengthening this type of convergence and symposium of the experts in the agriculture and fishery sector as this provides opportunities for the exchange of ideas and expertise in terms of research in agriculture and fisheries.

The Bureau of Public Information disclosed that during his visit, Sinarimbo brought audio-visual equipment for the ARMMIARC to make it more responsive to its research works.

During the symposium, Sinarimbo also pointed out the need to support research and development in agriculture and fisheries in the region to push the region forward towards development and food-sufficiency.

He also underscored the need for new discoveries and the need to understand new methods and phenomenon affecting agriculture and fishery sector so that appropriate responses can be provided to communities who needed them most in the region.

Meanwhile, DAF-ARMM Research and Development Dir. Jalica Mangacop expressed her gratitude to all those who participated in the celebration and appealed for more cooperative effort to strengthen the activities of the research facility.

This year’s theme is “Pagtutulungan ng pribado at ng sektor ng gobyerno sa pamamagitan ng teknolohiya para sa pag-unlad ng agrikultura at pangisdaan sa Mindanao” (Public-Private Partnership through technology for Agri-Fishery Development in Mindanao). (BPI-ARMM/PIA9-ZBST)
